Daisy, Bo and Luke visit him in jail, and he tells them that Boss is as corrupt as anyone, and the best way to get Jesse off is to find evidence of this. Bo and Luke soon discover Hogg's plan. He wants to convince all the county commissioners in Georgia to ban alcohol, thus paving the way for a thriving ice cream business.
More importantly, with all the ridge-runners in jail, Hogg will then be free to make a fortune selling his own illegal shine, turning the Boar's Nest into a speakeasy.
His secret? He wants the Duke family still, which produces the best shine in the County. It turns out Hughie is his nephew, and during his date with Daisy convinced her to tell him about the family secrets.
Daisy is devastated. The Dukes kidnap Boss and ride off in the General Lee with the police in tow. They threaten to drive into Hogg Ravine unless he tells them his plan. He is too scared not to tell, and his confession is broadcast over the CB thanks to Daisy's manipulation of Enos at the station.
The Dukes then jump the ravine anyway their first jump , and catch Hughie delivering illegal moonshine into Hazzard. Fed up with Hogg, the citizens demand he reverse his moonshine policy and free all the ridgerunners. Despite the general ineptitude of the production, the transfer itself looks pretty good: there are few instances of pixilation or artifacting, colors are rendered cleanly and in focus, and contrast levels are for the most part accurate and vivid.
One supposes the majority of the "quality" is due to the generally flat and unstylized approach director Rob Berlinger takes with the material, making everything shine with the same flat sitcom glow, but overall the picture quality is one of the few bright spots to be found on this disc.
One positive note is the Willie Nelson song "Miles" that appears in the film and is actually pretty good; unfortunately I've yet been unable to locate it on an album or compilation outside of this film. Score: 7 out of 10 Extras and Packaging The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning comes in a standard Amaray case with a paper insert featuring a plot synopsis, a list of bonus materials and technical information about the disc.
Coltrane" Featurette: "Dainty Hogg" Featurette: "Dukes In Drag" Music Video Featurette: "The Music of Hazzard" The first seven featurettes each run between five and ten minutes apiece, and offer information about the film that runs the gamut between uninteresting and completely useless. At the very least, the "New Dukes" featurette suggests that the actors who played Bo and Luke had fun hanging out with one another, but the remainder of the pieces more or less chronicle how the filmmakers misappropriated the original Hazzard characters for this prequel abomination.
This is where Scott talks about Daisy's coming of age, and discusses the character's wardrobe - which truth be told isn't particularly revealing, but does highlight her figure; one supposes this would be reason enough to watch this featurette if one couldn't get his hands on consumer-grade pornography or even just an episode of Entourage.
The "Coltrane" piece is actually interesting because it devotes some time to showing how funny is Harland Williams, this film's secret weapon if there were one; but the "Dainty Hogg" featurette's examination of the robotic hog designed for the movie is sort of like watching your little brother show you how he arranges all of your old G.
Joe figures for his home-movie battle sequences. And finally, the "Dukes In Drag" piece is all but completely uninteresting unless you're one of those guys who thinks it's funny to dress as a girl for Halloween; who decided that this would be more interesting for the film's no-doubt predominantly teenage male audience than, say, a featurette on Trishelle and the rest of the Hazzard county babes?
The end credits already include a host of profanity-laden outtakes, so it's tough to imagine why the producers would opt for this sub- Bosom Buddies wank instead of something that fans could actually enjoy.
